Why LaptopWorker?
The internet, coupled with the increasing advancement in our computing technology, has leveled the playing field for many businesses, while turning many industries upside down. As more and more consumers prefer to search and shop online, a simple e-commerce store can equally compete with a brick-and-mortar store at a fraction of the cost. This revolution has turned many industries, especially retail, upside down. One good example is a large number of retail stores failing to compete with Amazon’s e-commerce, such as Borders, Barnes & Noble, Toy-R-Us, and more. We love these physical stores, but our advancement in technology and communication is forcing a change in how we search and shop.
Aside from the retail industry, the publishing industry is also struggling. More and more people prefer to read their daily newspaper digitally, because they get the news much quicker and easier than the printed version, and sometimes because they feel good knowing they are saving trees in the process.
Due to the financial struggles, many newspaper and publishing companies are facing, they may have difficulty retaining their writers or attracting new writers. As a result, many writers and recent graduates who majored in the related fields were forced to find other ways to earn a living with the skill sets they have acquired. This change has given birth to jobs we have rarely (if ever) heard of 20 years ago, such as elance copywriters, SEO content writers, blog article writers, etc.
The taxi industry is also changing as anyone can easily register to become an Uber driver or similar type to gain an additional income stream. I learned how lucrative this business model is when I interviewed Uber drivers on a business trip to Boston.
There was an accountant with a master’s degree from Uganda driving Uber to save money to start his own tax-filing business. There was a recent graduate with a B.A. Aerospace degree driving Uber and Lyft to make money while living with his parents and waiting for job interviews related to his studies. There was also a factory worker who supplemented his income driving Uber who now drives Uber full-time after recently quitting his 8-to-5 job.
These real-life stories tell us that we’re living in a period of revolutionary changes. Unlike our parents or grandparents who counted on their pension funds (for 30+ years of services with a corporation) to take care of them after they retired, our generation can no longer rely on such pensions. Most companies have discontinued their pension plans, and many have transferred the management of that responsibility for employees who have previously earned it to a third party, who bought out those assets. That transfer of responsibility poses a number of hidden risks for current and retired employees if you think about it, but that’s a topic for another discussion.
The point I want to make is that these days you can easily (and should) generate extra income using the tools you already have (your vehicle, computer and internet service). For those of you who are already thinking of making extra money using your computer or replacing your current income from your 8-to-5 job completely, this site is for you.
But there’s one thing you should know first. We are not here to provide tips on how to get rich quick. “There is a big difference between Entrepreneurs and Wantrepreneurs” as Mark Cuban often says. Our content is for those Entrepreneurs who are passionate about what they do and are willing to learn how to work smart while avoiding common mistakes along the way. If you feel you are one of those Entrepreneurs, this site is for you. We will be your virtual mentors, pointing you in the right direction toward internet-earning success.
